Suspicious – A Landscape of Crime

Interactive and immersive

The learning module “Suspicious: A Landscape of Crime” takes young learners on a journey to uncover traces of the Nazi past.

The application focuses on the Ohrdruf “SIII” concentration camp, one of the many sub-camps of Buchenwald. Four immersive 360° views of the site of the Ohrdruf concentration camp complex – most of it is now closed to the public – enable users to explore this site of Nazi crimes from a contemporary perspective. Historical photos, documents, interviews with contemporary witnesses, and other media combine to provide a fuller picture.

Students are accompanied by Vicky, a young presenter who introduces the topics covered by the module from a young person’s perspective and invites them to explore.

In addition to the 360° landscapes, pupils can use a digital map to choose between three themed tours. These tours give them the opportunity to delve deeper into topics such as the visibility of Nazi crimes in everyday life, liberation and the end of the war, and debates about memory and remembrance after 1945.

“Suspicious” can be used to teach a range of subjects, including history, politics, social sciences, or ethics. It is suitable for students in grade 9 and above.

The learning module is not mobile-friendly. For the best learning experience, we recommend using a tablet or a laptop
