How Gen Z thinks and feels about the Nazi era

Our recent study uses qualitative methods and an approach based on depth psychology combined with representative quantitative data to shed light on Gen Z’s high sensitivity and deep interest in the history of the Nazi era.

A study conducted by researchers from the Berlin Social Science Center (WZB) and the Hertie School of Governance, in collaboration with the Arolsen Archives, clearly demonstrates for the first time that digital, participatory remembrance initiatives like #everynamecounts inspire people to actively engage in remembrance of Nazi crimes and encourageWthem to help build a more open and inclusive society.

Study on “Right-Wing Extremism and Antisemitism”

RIAS, the Federal Association of Departments for Research and Information on Antisemitism, has conducted the first-ever nationwide study to evaluate more than 2,000 antisemitic incidents linked to right-wing extremism. The findings reveal a strong tendency toward violence among right-wing extremist groups and individuals.

Holocaust knowledge: 8-country study

The Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany conducted a study with data from 8 countries to investigate young people’s knowledge and awareness of the Holocaust. The findings demonstrate a decline in knowledge of the basic facts.

Culture of remembrance in Germany

The Institute for Interdisciplinary Research on Conflict and Violence in Bielefeld (IKG) have been researching the “what, how, and why” of remembrance in Germany since 2018, when they first published their “MEMO Germany – Multidimensional Remembrance Monitor.” The latest MEMO study was published in 2025.
