Political involvement

Many politicians have gotten involved in #everynamecounts and used their social media channels to generate support for the initiative.

Annalena Baerbock, Claudia Roth, Franziska Giffey, Jens Spahn, Petra Pau … They and many others have already been active in #everynamecounts. But also mayors, state parliament presidents, and 36 German ambassadors to countries around the world, including Latvia, Argentina, Panama, Malawi, New Zealand, and Iran.

Whether on special action days or regular challenge events, hundreds of members of parliament, prominent politicians, and federal and state employees have actively participated in the digitization of documents and used their contacts and communication channels to promote #everynamecounts in the political sphere.

Action Day in the German Bundestag

In June 2024, students from four Berlin schools introduced the initiative #everynamecounts to the German Bundestag (federal parliament). Right then and there, many members of parliament took advantage of the opportunity to digitize data from historical documents and commemorate victims of Nazi persecution on their social media channels.

#everynamecounts is a form of forward-thinking remembrance that deserves our strong support. It is a unique digital memorial that anyone can help to build. Everyone who takes part is making a very real contribution to keeping the memory of the victims alive and making their fate more visible across the globe as well as more relatable for younger people in particular – while at the same time taking a firm stand against hatred and agitation, antisemitism and racism.

Claudia Roth, Minister of State for Culture and the Media until 2025
